HBBA President's Message
HBBA 2008 Message from the President
January 10, 2008
Dear Fellow Hawthorne Area Businesses and Property Owners,
The Hawthorne Boulevard Business Association (HBBA) is a volunteer organization supported by contributions of time, energy, and money from the local business community. It is dedicated to making Hawthorne Boulevard a healthy place to live, work, shop. This year, with your support, the HBBA participated in the following projects and activities:
1) Brought back the Street Fair, by popular demand!
2) Supported and subsidized a weekly group ad program, with thanks to Larry Williams of The Monkey King and 65 participating businesses;
3) Reached new heights of accuracy and appeal for our Hawthorne Boulevard website, www.thinkhawthorne.com, drawing between 1600-3200 unique visitors each month;
4) Maintained an email “listserve” to facilitate communication along the Boulevard. To join, go to: hbba-list-subscribe@yahoogroups.com;
5) Worked with the Portland Police Bureau to have bike patrols on our street;
6) Published a monthly article on the inside back page of the SE Examiner with thanks to our sponsors;
7) Applied for and obtained $9,000 in grants for 2007-2008 to fund historic plaques, the Hawthorne Day street fair, and group ads.
8) Presented Multnomah County with a bronze plaque telling the history of Hawthorne, and in return receiving their proclamation of “Hawthorne Day” for August 18, 2007.
The success of the Hawthorne Boulevard Business District is beneficial to us all. We look forward to working with you to continue to ensure that success. Please feel free to contact me if you are willing to volunteer in some capacity or would like to discuss how to best support these community efforts.
Sincerely,
Karin Edwards, Certified Rolfer
2007-2008 President, Hawthorne Boulevard Business Association
